Starting a House Cleaning Business STEP by STEP
67A house cleaning business may in fact be one of the easiest and cheapest businesses to start. I had a cleaning business for 7 years. I started the business for under 20 bucks. Keep in mind though, once you have cleaned a few houses and decided that this is what you really want to do, you will probably want to develop a business plan and get legal (I will explain that in a future blog, but we won't get into that right now. Here are a few easy steps to get you started.
1. You will first need to determine what types of cleaning services you will offer such as carpet cleaning or window cleaning.
2. Buy or make some business cards. Having a business card to present to your clients will show that you are professional and that you mean business.
3. You will now need to establish how much you will charge. The price can vary depending on your location. So the best way to find out how much your competition is charging, is to call several of them and get an estimate. You would want to price below what they are charging since you are just getting started.
4. Buy cleaning supplies. You can probably get all that you need for under $25 bucks if you use your clients vacuum cleaner. Also, you can let the client know that you can use their cleaning supplies if they prefer. In that case, all you have to do is show up!
5. Place an ad. I would recommend placing an ad on Craigslist for cleaning jobs. When you place your ad be sure to include the locations that you will service, hours of operation, and also include a detailed list of what you will clean so they know what to expect.
6. Taking your first call. Confidence is everything. When speaking to your potential clients, be sure to sound confident (even if you're not) and that you know what you are doing. If you sound unsure, this will cause the potential client to be hesitant about hiring you.

Very well written and informative! Thank you for this information.
Very easy-to-read informative Hub. I didn't realize it was that easy and inexpensive to start a house cleaning business. Thanks for educating me.
Good for you. I think everyone should work for themselves! It isn't always easy, but I think controlling your own destiny is important.
By the way - sometimes it is better to charge more, especially if the competition is sloppy. Charge more for superior work.
Thanks for the information, I’ll be making the necessary changes thanks to your tips.Ii enjoyed the post, you have a nice site.

Wow Brain Space! Great article. I had my own decorating business prior to my car accident. And though I am not able to do the physical work any longer I have been considering writng an article explaining how to measure paper for a room and how to hang wallpaper.
Like you, I have so many ideas swirling around up there that I will just keep writing.
I made a mistake...the decorating business was Dad's and I was the paperhanger.
